CDSA was formerly known as the Direct Services Association, which represents direct care service providers to individuals with disabilities. They decided to change to a more descriptive name and needed a new identity as well.
A New Name – Decided on by the Association Membership
The association’s membership was involved in a lengthy name development process, which was to be voted on by the 100+ members of the association. So Phillips Design started the design process without a final name.
This association works with providers who work with the disabled – they provide valuable, heart-felt aid to people who often can’t help themselves. These are caring people who do an extraordinary job.
Our initial design approach reflected that three-step hierarchy and included three figures, all with heart, and a new slogan: “Embrace. Enable. Empower.”
The initial presentation included the identity, a color system, application to collateral, exhibit displays, and advertising specialties – a complete package.
Together for Better
A couple of months after we made the initial presentation, the association confirmed their new name – the California Disability Services Association.
Final design discussion and review followed, again with a vote by the association membership. CDSA approved this identity and the byline, “Together for Better.”
