Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
In celebration of these holidays, Lee would like to introduce his “Signature” cocktail – It’s called the “Turley Semple.”
This drink was an accident, born of desperation. If you’ve ever had cocktails with Lee, you know that until recently he has been a Vodka Tonic drinker. Why? Because a Vodka Tonic is simple – Vodka, lime, tonic. (Just another example of less is more.) It’s also easy to make, low calorie, and low risk, in terms of hangover. Anyway, he ran out of lime juice one night and was looking for a substitute. He came across a bottle of Campari, an Italian apèritif that is dark red and bitter sweet.
So, in the spirit of a true Mixologist, he added a shot of Campari to his Vodka Tonic and wow! – this is really good! Damn good.
He has since conducted extensive field tests on several occasions and all but one person* has agreed – It is delicious! (*That particular test subject disliked Campari to begin with.)
After deciding that this was a bona fide cocktail, he needed to come up with a name. Many suggestions were thrown about but none really did the job. However, Lee had previously noticed two things: One, that the drink looked almost innocent, like a Shirley Temple. And two, that anyone who drank more than two began to misplace the consonants in their speech. As in, “You know, this looks like a Turley Semple, but kan, it’s a mut bicker.”
Introducing The Turley Semple:
- Tall glass
- Clear ice (Remember, Ice makes the drink!)
- One shot, your favorite Vodka
- One shot Campari
- Fill with fresh tonic water
- Garnish with a slice of orange, and
- Enjoy!
Merry Christmas!
